If you’re experiencing problems with audio playback, multi-stem tracks, or sound output inside Modern Metal Academy, this guide covers the most common causes and solutions.
These steps apply to both desktop and mobile devices.
Check Your Output Device
First, ensure your device is sending audio to the correct output.
Headphones connected?
Bluetooth device paired?
External interface selected?
Speakers muted?
Switch between outputs if needed and test the audio again.
Refresh the Page
Refreshing the page reloads the audio engine and often resolves issues like:
Silence
Missing stems
Stems not updating when toggled
Volume slider not responding
Use Google Chrome
For best audio performance, use:
Google Chrome (recommended browser)
Safari, Firefox, and mobile browsers can sometimes treat multi-stem audio differently.
If stems are:
Out of sync
Not switching
Not playing at all
Try Chrome.
Disable Browser Extensions
Extensions such as ad blockers, privacy blockers, or script managers may block audio components.
Try:
Disabling extensions
Opening an incognito/private window
Restarting your browser
Check Internet Speed
Multi-stem audio requires additional data to load.
Slow internet can cause:
Stems not switching
Audio dropouts
Buffering
A stable connection of 5–10 Mbps is recommended.
Using Multi-Stems in the Mobile App
Multi-stem playback is available in the mobile app for Masters members.
If stems aren’t working in the app:
Close and reopen the app
Log out and log back in
Ensure the app is updated
Restart your device
Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data
Ensure 'Enhanced Slowdown' is ticked when in backing track mode of the player. You can find this option in the speed trainer menu (or where it says 100% on the navigation bar of the player)
Synth-Only Mode Not Sounding Correctly
Synth-only mode plays tab data through a MIDI-style synthesised guitar sound.
If it sounds off-pitch:
Check the tuning setting in the player.
You may have transposed the tab higher or lower.
Reset tuning and try again.
One Stem Is Muted or Not Changing
If one stem (guitar/drums/bass) seems stuck:
Turn the stem off
Turn it back on
Refresh the page
Restart your browser
This forces the audio engine to reload the file.
Audio Crackling or Distortion
This can be caused by:
Low device memory
Browser overload
Too many tabs open
Bluetooth latency
Weak Wi-Fi signal
Try:
Closing unused apps/tabs
Switching to wired headphones
Restarting your device
