Modern Metal Academy lessons use an advanced video player designed to make learning faster and more efficient. This player combines video, synced tablature, speed control, looping, and multi-stem audio features to help you practise more effectively.
This feature is only available for our MASTERS members.
This article explains how to use each feature.
1. Synced Video and Tablature
The video player displays scrolling tablature in perfect sync with the instructor’s performance.
This helps you understand:
Fret positions
Picking direction
Rhythmic placement
Timing and subdivisions
Transitions between phrases
Masters members can view synced tabs on both desktop and mobile.
2. Speed Control
You can slow down, speed up or or utilise the speed trainer without changing the pitch.
Use this feature to practise:
Fast riffs
Complex rhythms
Picking patterns
Advanced techniques
Building endurance and stamina.
Start slow, then increase speed as you gain accuracy.
3. Looping Sections
Loop any measure or phrase as many times as needed.
This is ideal for learning:
Difficult transitions
Fast bursts
Polyrhythmic ideas
Intricate picking sections
Highlight a segment to create a seamless loop.
4. Multi-Stem Backing Tracks
You can adjust individual stems, including:
Drums
Bass
Rhythm Guitar
Lead Guitar
Clean Guitar
Synths
This allows you to create your own practice mix and isolate the parts you need.
5. Section Navigation
Jump directly to specific markers or sections of the lesson without manually searching through the timeline.
6. Video Flip (Left-Handed Mode)
Left-handed players can flip the video horizontally to mirror the instructor’s performance.
This makes learning easier by visually matching your hand orientation.
Toggle this feature by hovering over the video and selecting the video flip switch in the video player settings.
7. Metronome Controls
The built-in metronome lets you customise:
Beat division (quarter notes, eighths, triplets, etc.)
Metronome volume
Playback alongside stems, video, and tabs
This is useful for working on timing, groove, and tighter rhythmic control.
8. Fretboard View
The fretboard view displays a virtual fretboard showing the exact notes being played in real time.
This helps you see:
Finger positioning
String choices
Scale shapes
Note movement across the neck
It is especially helpful for visual learners and understanding note relationships.
9. Synth-Only Mode (Transpose Tabs to Your Tuning)
The synth-only mode allows you to hear the tab played back without the full band.
You can also transpose the playback into your preferred tuning, allowing you to practise riffs and exercises in:
Standard
Drop tunings
Alternative tunings
Custom setups
This makes it easy to practise lessons even if your guitar is tuned differently from the lesson video.
